Six Decades of Comedy Basketball!
The concept comedy-styled
basketball is not new, nor are the Harlem RoadKings. The name
was founded by sports promoter Bobby Grund in 1945 in Des Monies, IA.
Then in 1958 the original “Clown Prince of Basketball”,
Goose Tatum, adopted the name and
made Harlem RoadKings a household name. At times some of us
old Globetrotter teammates
would join him on tours like basketball Hall of Famer Marques
Haynes who was named the
world’s greatest dribbler. Goose Tatum’s Harlem
RoadkKings have played to fans worldwide.
On November
11, 1995, in Cleveland Ohio, the name Harlem RoadKings was
reborn by today’s
21st century “Comedy King of Basketball”, “ShowBoat” Robinson. “ShowBoat” is
keeping the
tradition of the RoadKings’ name alive. To date, the
team has been featured in such publications
as USA Today, Basketball Digest, and Sports Spectrum. “ShowBoat” Robinson’s
Harlem
RoadKings have toured from Hollywood, California to Europe,
and the Middle East. |
