Lamont "ShowBoat" Robinson
A True Legend
ShowBoat Robinson
grew up in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. As a child he was told
he could be anything he wanted to be as long as he worked hard
at it and kept away from drugs and alcohol. Well, “ShowBoat” did
just that and it paid off at every possible level. “ShowBoat” Robinson
has had an illustrious career in basketball. He is without
a doubt, an “All-Star”, a street ball legend and
a star in comedy basketball!
Having
a 6’3” physique,
Robinson is a guard who makes things happen on the basketball
court. He graduated from Jeanette Senior High School (Pennsylvania)
and played for Kankakee (Illinois) Junior college, during which
time the team established a 32 – 2 season and was ranked
third in the nation. He then played for Central State University
in Wilberforce, Ohio.
On
graduating from college, “ShowBoat” went on to
play basketball professionally in Copenhagen, Denmark, leading
the country in scoring. He also played for the Long Island
Knights of the USBL and CBA and traveled to Russia with the
Harlem Globetrotters and Washington Generals.
With
the 2007 basketball season being ShowBoat's 20th year in
professional basketball,
in addition to playing with Harlem Globetrotter’s great
Meadowlark Lemon (“Clown
Prince of Basketball”) in the late 1980’s and 1990’s, “ShowBoat” has
traveled to over fifty counties and has played in every state
in the USA. , for the past twenty years, “ShowBoat” now
hails as the modern day “Comedy King of Basketball”. “ShowBoat” visits
schools all over the world with his
impact program, “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life and Family”,
spreading his message during the season.
Besides
his growing list of credits, his national and international
television and newspaper appearances on CBS and USA Today, “ShowBoat” has
made acquaintances with other well-known celebrities such as
Michael Jordon, Jim Brown, Dr. J., and Lebron James. On November
1, 2001 “ShowBoat” Robinson’s Harlem RoadKings
jersey and uniform was hung in the Basketball Hall of Fame
and one day “ShowBoat” will be there. Remaining
focused is “ShowBoat’s” primary objective.
Delivering a message to youth carries a big responsibility.
On
top of being a skilled athlete, “ShowBoat” Robinson’s
character and personality is truly that of a role model and
his outstanding accomplishments are prime examples of dreams
fulfilled. “ShowBoat” listened to the advice he
was given; worked hard, stayed drug and alcohol free, followed
his dream, and attained his goal.
Along
with a love for basketball and a genuine spirit, “ShowBoat” also
has entrepreneurial aspirations. He is following in the footsteps
of Abe Saperstein, the original founder and owner of the world
renowned Harlem Globetrotters. He has for the past 12 years
owned and operated a comedy basketball team that has begun
its own history.
Today,
he is the “Comedy King of Basketball”. His team
is called “ShowBoat” Robinson’s
Harlem RoadKings.
